Sofas, laptops and tablets are a particularly bad combination for our postures and our spinal health, a dangerous combination! Even with the advantage of good, ergonomic office furniture, too many people slouch. And, we're here to tell you, no amount of brilliantly designed furniture or equipment is going to miraculously give you good posture! You have to learn how to support your own posture, not expect that the chair or specifically configured workstation will do it for you - it won't!
Slouching is hazardous on so many levels. It essentially switches off the core. It takes the spine into a shape/ position that longer-term can cause significant degeneration and spinal health problems: sciatica; disc problems; etc. It turns what should be a natural arch ( lordosis ), into a curl ( kyphosis ). In doing so we lose the natural shock absorbing qualities of the spine and thereby induce injury.
